Le me guide you to the land of Skyros .

Shop in the neat shops, buy traditional products, admire the beautiful Skyrian ceramics and don't forget to visit a farm with the beautiful Skyrian horses. The Skyrian horses are an ancient Greek breed of horses and are under protection.

Κάντε τα ψώνια σας στα προσεγμένα μαγαζιά, αγοράστε παραδοσιακά προϊόντα, θαυμάστε τα περίτεχνα Σκυριανά κεραμικά και μην ξεχάσετε να επισκεφθείτε μια φάρμα με τα πανέμορφα Σκυριανά άλογα που είναι σε καθεστώς προστασίας καθώς είναι η  μοναδική αρχαία Ελληνική φυλή αλόγων.

A 1.300 year-old olive tree on the garden of the National Archaeological Museum --------------- Μια ελιά 1.300 ετών στον κήπο του Εθνικού Αρχαιολογικού Μουσείου

      In the renovation of the National Archaeological Museum's garden 6.000 plants and trees , associated with Greek Mythology, were planted. Plants like "elichrysos" with its golden color symbolizes enternal love, "achillia" that according to mythology healed the wounds of Achillea, "kentavrio" that also healed the injured Centaur Chiron from the titanic battle.

      But the protagonist of the garden is a 1300 year old olive tree that symolizes the gift of the goddess Athena for the founding of the new city of Athens. 

      According to Greek Mythology, goddess Athena defeated Poseidon in the fight for who will give the most valuable gift for the new city of king Kekropas, in the presence of all the Olymbian gods. Then  Poseidon, striking the trident on the rock of Akropolis donated a sea-water spring, while Athena,striking  the earth with her stick, displayed the olive tree.The olive tree was precious for the life of the inhabitans, so the king  Kekropas in order to please Goddess Athena donated her name to the new city, Athena.

      Στην ανανέωση του κήπου του Εθνικού Αρχαιολογικού Μουσείου φυτεύτηκαν 6000 φυτά και δένδρα τα οποία σχετίζονται με την Ελληνική Μυθολογία. Φυτά όπως ο "ελίχρυσος"που με το χρυσαφί του χρώμα συμβολίζει την αιώνια αγάπη, η "αχίλλεια" που χρησιμοποιήθηκε για να επουλώσει τις πληγές του Αχιλλέα και το "κενταύριο"που φρόντισε τον πληγωμένο απο την τιτανομαχία Κένταυρο Χείρωνα.

     Πρωταγωνιστής όμως του κήπου είναι μια αιωνόβια ελιά 1.300 ετών που δεσπόζει πάνω σε ένα τεχνητό λόφο, συμβολίζοντας το δώρο της θεάς Αθηνάς που έδωσε το όνομά της στην πόλη της Αθήνας .

     Σύμφωνα με την Ελληνική Μυθολογία η θεά Αθηνά νίκησε τον θεό Ποσειδώνα στον αγώνα για το ποιός θα δώσει το πολυτιμότερο δώρο για την ίδρυση της νέας πόλης του βασιλιά Κέκροπα, παρουσία όλων των θεών του Ολύμπου. Τότε  ο Ποσειδώνας , χτυπώντας την τρίαινα στο βράχο της Ακρόπολης δώρισε μια πηγή με θαλασσινό νερό  ενώ η θεά Αθηνά χτυπώντας με το ραβδί της την γη εμφάνισε το δέντρο της ελιάς. Η ελιά ήταν πολύτιμη για την διατροφή και την ζωή των κατοίκων, έτσι ο βασιλιάς Κέκροπας  για να ευχαριστήσει την θεά Αθηνά , δώρισε το όνομά της στην νέα πόλη, την Αθήνα.

 

Anafiotika-a Cycladic island in the center of Athens --------------- ------------------------Αναφιώτικα-ένα Κυκλαδονήσι στο κέντρο της Αθήνας

Hello my friends. No, i'm not on a Cycladic island. I'm in Athens, in Anafiotika.

Anafiotika is a tiny neighborhood of Athens, under the Acropolis hill, part of the historical area Plaka. Small white houses, narrow steep streets and alleys, margenta bougainvilleas makes you forget that you are in Athens center. The first houses were built in the era  of Otto Greece, when workers from the Greek island Anafi, came to Athens in order to work as construction workers in the refurbishment of king Othon's Palace.
